Topic a: Impact of Livestock Farming on Climate Change
Topic b: Environmental Damage in Post-Conflict Areas
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
The Earth’s temperature has risen by 1 °C since the Industrial Revolution. This change might seem small but it is of great significance, bearing in mind that climate change is best viewed as a threat multiplier which exacerbates existing trends, tensions, and instability. With Climate Change being one of our world’s most urgent issues, the impact of livestock farming should not be overlooked. In this committee, you will discuss and try to solve this pressing matter, while keeping in mind its possible economic effects.
As to the second topic, you will be discussing the destruction caused by war and armed conflicts. Through resolutions passed at UN Environment Assemblies in 2016 and 2017, Member States demonstrated their recognition of the need to improve protection of the environment in times of armed conflict. However, if we are to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, we need to act with greater urgency and coherence to reduce the threats armed conflicts pose to our environment and ultimately our health and livelihoods.Your goal will be to up our ambition to protect our planet, even in the most complex and challenging scenarios.
- This committee is for both beginners and more advanced delegates.
